From Struggle to Strength: Amanda Collett’s Inspiring Weight Loss Journey

At just 31 years old, Amanda Collett from Downtown Somerset has embarked on a remarkable
transformation with the help of the Cumberlandamanda-before Bariatric Institute. A certified medical assistant at Lake Cumberland Orthopedics & Surgical Podiatry, Amanda’s journey to health began with a realization that changed everything.

"I grew up in Southeastern Kentucky, where eating is a way of life," Amanda recalls. "Whenever people gather, the food is hot, deep-fried, and often covered in something indulgent. Nobody teaches you how to eat healthily or when to stop, so you eat until you’re full. Exercise? That’s just not part of the culture."

Amanda’s turning point came after years of struggling with her weight. "I started seeing Robin Goff, APRN, back in 2021, but I didn’t take it seriously at first." Her casual approach changed drastically when she stepped on the scale to find she weighed 267 pounds. “I remember chasing my one-year-old down the driveway one day. I was so out of breath, my heart was pounding out of my chest. That’s when it hit me – my poor health was not just affecting me, but my children too."

Feeling limited in her activities and unable to enjoy outings with her kids, Amanda decided it was time for a change. "When I realized I was missing out on special moments with my family, I knew I had to take weight loss seriously."

She chose the Cumberland Bariatric Institute and Dr. Eid after hearing good things about their approach. "I have never had a negative experience at this office," Amanda shares. "They make you feel welcome and encouraged while holding you accountable, which is crucial on a weight loss journey."

Their support didn’t go unnoticed. "They truly take your journey personally. It feels like they are fully invested in your success," she explains, emphasizing the comforting atmosphere created by the staff. "Myra, in particular, is exceptional – kind, patient, and always there to help."

After undergoing a vertical sleeve gastrectomy on February 21, 2024, Amanda has experienced a complete transformation. "I've lost 130 pounds! My A1c and cholesterol are down, and my overall health did a complete 180. I'll soon be participating in my first 5k!" Not only has her health improved, but Amanda now sets a glowing example for her children. "They see a happy, healthy, and confident mom who can actively care for them."

Dr. Joseph Eid, who performed Amanda’s surgery, commended her dedication and progress, stating, “Amanda was a great patient, and I’m incredibly proud of her success. Her commitment to her health has been truly inspiring.”

For those considering a similar path, Amanda’s advice is heartfelt: "Taking the first step is the hardest part of the journey. You might struggle and doubt yourself, but it’s better to struggle and then succeed than never to try at all. With Dr. Eid and the Cumberland Bariatric Institute, you’re in great hands. They explain every step and never force anything uncomfortable. You won’t be judged or made to feel less than."

Amanda Collett’s journey is a testament to the power of commitment and support, proving that it’s never too late to prioritize one’s health.
